Research on Learning Methods and Processes

The Department of Learning Processes and Methods Research mainly has two scopes of action:

1.

Researching, designing and applying methodological models that improve learning processes within the scope of vocational research.

The methodological section revolves around the implementation, design, development and roll-out of the ETHAZI model and the projects and services developed at the department to roll out the model. The main ones are the ETHAZI digital repository, the SET (Skills Evolution Tool) assessment tool and focus, training programmes oriented toward methodological change, the development of innovative learning spaces and building collaboration networks and alliances with reference-point national and international entities in applying advanced learning methodologies.

The ETHAZI methodological model is a model for the methodological change of FPeuskadi centers, public and concerted VET centers. The main objective of this change is to incorporate new learning contexts into the classroom allowing a better development of the professional skills of students in their learning process, focused on technical skills, soft skills, the promotion of entrepreneurial culture and the development of creative thinking. The improvement of these competences, involves in the future, an opportunity of improvement also for the competitiveness of our companies and organizations.

The core element upon which the entire learning model rests is COLLABORATIVE CHALLENGE-BASED LEARNING. If you want to find out more about high-performance cycles, visit the “ETHAZI Repository”.

Currently, after the pilot phase, we are in the deployment phase in which are 52 the Basque VET Colleges that are participating, involving 1650 teachers, 5625 students and 225 cycles.

TRAINING SUPPLY

Training programs for the methodological change in Basque VET System

We offer diverse training programs linked to the reality of the Basque VET centers, based on active collaboration and as a blended learning offer.

All the programs are developed by experienced teachers that dealt with the methodological change in all of its aspects.

The contents are carried out in different modules or blocks:

Name
Bases of Collaborative Learning
Collaborative Challenge-Based Learning
Skill evaluation
Creative thinking
Promotion of enterprising culture

We believe that the best way to learn is by doing, so this “training-action” requires that the participant, for each module, actively collaborate in the process, with previous work, work at face-to-face sessions and practical final classroom projects.

Tutoring and training

The implementation of new methodologies in Vocational Training centers requires major changes, so it is important during this process to have advice and mentoring of experts in the field.

The experience of implementing the ETHAZI model and the good results in the Vocational Training of Euskadi, support the good work of Tknika, which is why we have become one of the referents of methodological change at international level.

We are currently supporting different Vocational Training Centers and Systems in their process of change. From the Learning Processes and Methods Research area we are offering to carry out designs of implementation and training programs, always adapted to the needs and characteristics of each one.

Methodological change awareness workshops

The purpose of these workshops is to inform and provide information on our new educational context, the need for a methodological change to train students and how to carry out this change in the classroom.

In addition to comprehensive information on each section, teachers from VT centres who implemented the ETHAZI model in their cycles participated in the workshops.

2.

The design, development and training programme management that drive TKNIKA's transfer process.

The following lines and objectives are worked on mainly in the second section:

Design, development and programme and training action management for effective use and transfer of results to projects and services.

Active contribution to the internationalisation of FPeuskadi (Euskadi Vocational Training) by designing and developing specific training programmes, participating in speeches and events and assessing application of the model in other countries, as well as participating in European projects.

Projects and Services

SET (Skills Evolution Tool)

Competence assessment focused on Evolution
We have developed the SET application taking into consideration the main characteristics of an evaluation process designed for a learning system in which students are at the very centre of the learning process. Its name "SET" comes from the expression Skills Evolution Tool and, as its name tells, we aim mainly at measuring the EVOLUTION of the competences acquisition by the students.

Training programs oriented to methodological change

We believe in learning by doing
Design, development and management of training programs to boost the methodological change

ETHAZI

High Performance Cycles
The central element on which the whole learning model is articulated is COLLABORATIVE LEARNING BASED ON CHALLENGES.
